1.循序渐进
“冰冻三尺，非一日之寒”。书面表达能力的培养和提高不是靠一日之功就能实现的，更不是一蹴而就的事情。书面表达能力的提高必须遵循由易到难、由浅入深、循序渐进、步步推进的方式进行训练。(1)具备扎实的英语基础知识。要求学生能准确、工整、熟练地书写出英语的26个字母；对高中常用的动词、名词、介词、连词、词组等能记住和熟练运用；对高中学到的语法知识要能熟练地加以运用；注意字母的大小写和标点符号的正确运用。(2)在记住单词、词组、语法的基础上，要求学生进行组词造句和由句成段的练习。开始可让学生写出简单的句子，为以后的写作能力的提高打下坚实的基础。如让学生以我的家庭为题目，写出些简单的句子。(3)学生掌握了基础知识后，就可以让学生写些复杂点的句子。这些句子可用上各种语态和时态，比如使用到被动语态，使用到一般过去时、一般将来时、现在完成时、过去完成时等。也可使用一些过渡词，还可以使用各种从句，比如定语从句、名词性从句、状语从句等。
2.限时训练
学生掌握了基础的写作知识后就可以对他们进行限时训练，以增强他们的运用意识和提高他们的写作能力。限时训练就是利用一堂课的时间从公布写作题目，让学生马上审题，快速理解题目包含的信息，及时构思篇章结构，限时交卷的一种训练方式。限时训练这个环节是学生的写作能力和应试能力得到提高的关键一步，也是学生比较难过的关。在进行限时训练前，要让学生明白高考英语的书面表达的写作不是一般意义上的汉译英，也不是可任意发挥的作文写作，而是根据写作的提示和写作的要求，将规定的材料内容分析和整理后，展开思维，组织语言，运用英语知识准确表达写作意图。在进行限时训练的初期可适当地把时间延长点，但随着学生的写作能力的提高，可把时间缩短，最终让学生在30分钟内把作文完成，要让学生养成快速思维，迅速写作的习惯，而不是养成拖拖拉拉的习惯。
3.重视范例
英语教师可把高考常考的每一种写作文体都找出二到三篇范文来，让学生熟读，直到能够熟练的背诵。这样学生在写作的时候，就会自然而然地把熟记的单词、句型等应用到写作中来。在进行限时训练的时候，教师可和学生一块写作短文，在规定的写作时间结束的时候，可让学生马上停下手中的笔，然后教师读自己写的范文。学生在听完范文后，要求学生所写的文章和教师的范文进行对比，看学生自己的文章那里好，那里差，无论好与差都要求学生找出原因，找出与范文的差距，以便在后来的写作中得到提高。
4.自改互改
学生在写完短文后，可进行自我检查，并把自己认为表达错误的地方进行初步改正。自己修改完了，再让两个学生一组进行互相改正。在改正的过程中如果有疑问可在文章中标出，改完后两个学生对错误的地方进行谈论，真正地解决疑问之处，对于两个人意见不一致的，或不能解决的地方，可向教师求助。学生得到了满意的答复，他们的心里自然是很高兴的，这样做不但提高了学生的写作兴趣，更培养和提高了学生的写作能力。
5.讲评及时
学生的写作完成了，教师要及时地对学生的作文进行讲评，只有从学生的写作中得到及时全面的反馈信息，才能更进一步地明白以后的教学方向。下面的几点是重要的。(1)在时间紧张的时候，可抽查部分学生的作文，特别是写作能力差的学生。(2)在评阅的时候，要把学生经常犯的普遍性错误和典型性错误记录下来，为以后的写作教学积累素材。(3)对优秀的作文或进步较大的作文，张贴到后面，让学生多看，多模仿，以全面提高写作能力。(4)讲评课要做充分的准备，要能使不同水平的学生听后都有所收获。总之，写作能力的提高不是一蹴而就的，需要进行长时间的、大量的英语写作训练；在平时的英语教学中，要多鼓励学生背诵和熟读课文，直到用心记住，写作的时候好像这些知识就是你自己的。如此，提高高中英语写作的能力，就是“apieceofcake”。
